Johnson named South Carolina Dcoordinator

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Ticker) -- South Carolina coach Steve
Spurrier on Thursday named Ellis Johnson as his new defensive
coordinator.

Johnson spent the past four seasons as the defensive coordinator
at Mississippi State under Sylvester Croom. He then lasted
less than two months on Bobby Petrino's staff at Arkansas before
bolting for Columbia.

In Johnson's final game as coordinator, the Bulldogs held the
nation's leading-rusher Kevin Smith in a 10-3 victory over
Central Florida in the Liberty Bowl on December 29.

Overall, Johnson has 27 years of coach experience - 14 as a
defensive coordinator.
