LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Kentucky quarterback Curtis
Pulley has been kicked off the team for violating team rules,
the school announced Tuesday.
The decision was revealed during the team's preseason media day
by head coach Rich Brooks, who claimed last Thursday that Pulley
would definitely miss playing time as a result of his recent
legal problems.
But five days later, Pulley, a junior who had a chance to
compete for the Wildcats' starting quarterback job, saw his
checkered tenure at Kentucky come to a disappointing end.
After missing all of last season due to academic issues, Pulley
was cited by Louisville police for marijuana possession this
past June. One month later, he was arrested on charges of
speeding and driving with a suspended license.
Pulley pleaded guilty to the marijuana charge and entered a drug
diversion program. The South Carolina native also entered
entered a guilty plea to the speeding charge, but the suspended
license charge was dropped.
The 6-4 Pulley appeared in 21 games in his career at Kentucky,
completing 59 percent of his passes for 274 yards. An
outstanding athlete, he also rushed for 273 yards and three
touchdowns.
With Pulley out of the mix, sophomore Mike Hartline likely will
be Kentucky's starting quarterback this season. The Wildcats
have been searching for a successor to Andre' Woodson, who threw
40 touchdown passes last year.
