Louisville suspends K Dougherty two games

editor1  |Oct 08,2008

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Louisville sophomore kicker
Tim Dougherty has been suspended for two games for conduct
detrimental to the team.

Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe made the announcement during
his weekly media session on Tuesday, but did not reveal the
specific nature of the violation.

Dougherty made his only field goal attempt - a 36-yarder against
Kansas State - and converted all four extra point attempts this
season.

Kragthorpe said kickers Ryan Payne and Chris Philpott would
battle this week for the starting job.

"We'd already made the determination that we were going to shake
things up and open up the kicking battle," Kragthorpe said.

Philphott won the job in fall practice, but has been erratic.
He missed a 38-yarder against Kentucky and is 6-for-8 in extra
points. Dougherty replaced Philphott in the Kansas State game.

Payne has been slowed by a groin pull and has not seen any
action this season.
