STARKVILLE, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Mississippi State football
coach Sylvester Croom was rewarded for a strong season with a
two-year contract extension on Monday.

School president Dr. Robert H. Foglesong announced the
extension, which requires approval by the Board of Trustees.

The two-year contract extension carries Croom through the 2011
season. Financial details were not released.

Croom, the consensus Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year,
led the Bulldogs to an 8-5 record in 2007 with wins over Auburn,
Kentucky and Alabama as well as a win over Central Florida in
the 2007 Liberty Bowl.

A graduate of Alabama, Croom spent three seasons as the Green
Bay Packers' running backs coach before taking the Mississippi
State job. He also coached under Paul Bryant at his alma mater.
