The NFF recently announced the On-Campus Salute dates for the
2008 FBS (formerly Division I-A) Hall of Fame Class: Troy
Aikman, UCLA - TBA; Billy Cannon, LSU vs. Ole Miss - Nov. 22;
Jim Dombrowski, Virginia vs. Southern California - Aug. 30; Pat
Fitzgerald, Northwestern vs. Purdue - Oct. 18; Wilber Marshall,
Florida vs. Miami (Fla.) - Sept. 6; Rueben Mayes, Washington
State vs. Oregon - Sept. 27; Randall McDaniel, Arizona State vs.
Georgia - Sept. 20; Don McPherson, Syracuse vs. Louisville -
Nov. 1; Jay Novacek, Wyoming vs. North Dakota State - Sept. 13;
Dave Parks, Texas Tech vs. SMU - Sept. 13; Ron Simmons, Florida
State vs. Boston College - Nov. 15; Thurman Thomas, Oklahoma
State vs. Oklahoma - Nov. 29 (tent.); Arnold Tucker, Army vs.
Akron - Sept. 20 (tent.); Coach John Cooper, Arizona State vs.
Georgia - Sept. 20; Ohio State vs. Penn State - Oct. 25; Tulsa
vs. UCF - Oct. 26; and Coach Lou Holtz, Notre Dame vs. Michigan
- Sept. 13.

Virginia's Jim Dombrowski will be the first Hall of Famer to
celebrate an On-Campus Salute, as the Cavaliers take on USC this
Saturday.

Dombrowski, a unanimous First Team All-America pick in 1984 and
a two-time First Team All-ACC selection, received the Jacobs
Blocking Trophy in back-to-back years (1984-85) as the ACC's
best offensive lineman. He was the sixth overall pick in the
1986 NFL Draft.

NFF Honors Court Chairman and former ACC Commissioner Gene
Corrigan will represent the National Football Foundation at the
event. The game begins at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be aired on
ABC/ESPN2.

Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series

The Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series presented by Burger
King kicks off this weekend with 18 premier high school
match-ups scheduled for Saturday, Sunday and Monday across Ohio
and Texas. Seven of the games will take place in Texas Stadium
(four on Saturday, Aug. 30 and three on Monday, Sept. 1) and
will benefit the National Football Foundation. Five of the top
26 teams in the country according to ESPN's recently released
national rankings will take part in the event, including the
marquee match-up of No. 1 Euless Trinity (Texas) vs. No. 26
River Ridge John Curtis (La.) on Monday, Sept. 1.

Saturday games at Texas Stadium will be televised on the VERSUS
Network with play-by-play announcer Kevin Eschenfelder and Shea
Walker serving as analyst. Tickets are available online at
Ticketmaster.com or Ticketweb.com and can also be purchased the

ESPN's Rece Davis to Emcee NFF Annual Awards Dinner

Widely-respected sports commentator Rece Davis will emcee the
2008 NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York
City on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.

Davis, a native of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and a University of
Alabama graduate, currently serves as studio host for ESPN and
ESPN2's coverage of college football and college basketball and
the college basketball version of the weekly College GameDay
while also working the play- by-play call on select college
football games. He has served as host of ESPN and ESPN2's
College Football Final since August 1999, College Football
Live-ESPN's daily college football news program and College
GameNight - ESPN's daily college basketball news and highlights
program.

World champion swimmer Michael Phelps will be honored during
Michigan's home football game against Wisconsin on Sept. 27...
Georgia head coach Mark Richt has organized the Coach Richt
Bowling Challenge which will begin Thursday, Aug. 28 and is open
to all university students... Wyoming held its annual Back to
School Bash last Saturday with appearances by UW coaches, the
Cowboys' marching band, cheerleaders, and KGGY Radio... LSU set
a season ticket sales record for the fourth consecutive year...
Texas Tech has sold out its season ticket allotment for the
first time in school history... New Mexico State announced its
"Bring It- Ring It" campaign, designed to give out free Aggie-
branded cowbells to season ticket holders... Georgia Tech will
unveil new uniforms this autumn... Baylor and Rice will renew
their gridiron series from 2010-16... Promotions for Friday's
Rice-SMU Conference USA opener on ESPN in Houston, Texas,
include a cook-off with 75 members of the Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo barbecue committee. Houston keyboardist Ezra Charles
is set to perform at Tailgate Owley. 850 people attended the SMU
Football Kickoff Luncheon last Wednesday. Rice AD Chris Del
Conte has earned a two-year contract extension from the
school... The Football Writers Association of America has
released its preseason FWAA Grantland Rice poll (named after the
1947 National Football Foundation co-founder) with Southern
California atop the survey... 2003 College Football Hall of Fame
inductee Joe Theismann (Notre Dame) will be the guest speaker
for the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation's Madame Curie
Society Dinner on Oct. 20 in Greenwood, S.C.

Kansas State and Iowa State will play their Big 12 contests at
Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City in 2009 and 2010... Kentucky
has announced plans for major expansion and renovation at
Commonwealth Stadium and other athletics facilities construction
totaling between $300 and $400 million... Notre Dame will
unveil 11 larger- than-life championship rings near Gate E at
Notre Dame Stadium to commemorate the school's 11 national
football crowns and also begins its "60-Year Salute to Black
Student-Athletes" at the university in the opener vs. San Diego
State... Michigan State held a formal dedication for its new
Skandalaris Football Center last Thursday... Akron football
student-athletes and coaches helped serve lunch to over 100
workers at the school's new stadium site last week as a tribute
for the construction crew's dedication and work against tight
deadlines... Houston raised approximately $12 million of the $38
million to construct the Wilhelmina Smith End Zone Facility at
its campus football stadium... War Memorial Stadium will
continue to host two Arkansas football games though 2016, an
extension of two years from the original contract.

The NCAA has instituted several new rules for 2008: The
horse-collar tackle has been banned; the game will now have a
40-second clock that starts counting down immediately when the
ball becomes dead; officials can use video to look at field-goal
attempts and to determine if a player was downed before
fumbling or if a player was knocked out of bounds before scoring
a touchdown; and officials can call an incidental facemask
penalty.

ESPN and the SEC have reached a milestone 15-year agreement
beginning in 2009-10 and continuing through 2023-24. This is the
longest national rights agreement in ESPN history and all
national programming will fall under the branding "SEC on
ESPN"... The Big 12 Conference and Dr Pepper have extended their
corporate sponsorship agreement through 2012. Dr Pepper has
sponsored the Big 12 Football Championship since 1996... The
Mtn. celebrates the first 10 years of Mountain West Conference
football and other sports with the premier of "The Mountain West
10th Anniversary - A Decade Above the Rest," hosted by
commissioner Craig Thompson, on Monday, at 8 p.m. (MDT). The
Mtn. will air 30 games involving MWC football squads in '08 and
a weekly highlights show with added production value... KVHP-TV
in Lake Charles, La., and KPXJ-TV in Shreveport, La., have
joined the Southland Conference Television Network.

2008 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Rueben Mayes
(Washington State) was honored in the "Famous Sports Figures"
category at the Pullman Walk of Fame induction last Saturday...
2004 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Tony Casillas
(Oklahoma) and former Tulsa standout Drew Pearson were inducted
into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame last week... Tennessee's
1998 national championship team will be honored with a
"Perfection" weekend celebration for the Vols-Alabama game in
Knoxville on Oct. 25... Former Purdue TE Tim Stratton, the
first-ever recipient of the John Mackey Award in 2000 for the
best tight end in college football, has joined the John Mackey
Award's Selection Committee. Stratton is on the NFF Chicago
Metro Chapter Board of Directors... The Rimington Trophy has
selected its 45- player watch list for 2008... NFF Board Member
and Michigan AD Bill Martin will be presented the Bobby Dodd
Athletic Director's Trophy at this year's Division IA Athletic
Directors' Annual Meeting in Sept. Former Wolverines head coach
Lloyd Carr will be honored by the Bobby Dodd Foundation at
Michigan's first home game on Aug. 30. He will be recognized as
the organization's Dodd Trophy recipient for 2007. The
organization also recently named new Georgia State head coach
Bill Curry as its new president.

Georgia Tech and Russell Athletic have renewed their uniform and
apparel agreements through 2018... Collegiate Licensing Co. has
denoted its top 10 licensees in terms of highest apparel sales:
Texas, Michigan, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, North Carolina,
Georgia, Alabama, Penn State, and Tennessee.

Gene Upshaw (Texas A&M- Kingsville), 63, longtime NFL Players
Association president, died last Thursday from pancreatic
cancer. He played for the Oakland Raiders 15 seasons from
1967-81... Frank Cornish (UCLA), who played on two Super
Bowl-winning teams with the Dallas Cowboys, died last week in
Southlake, Texas. He was 40.
