Pelini signs contract at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Nebraska (Ticker) -- Bo Pelini cemented his future at
Nebraska on Wednesday, signing a five-year contract to be the
Cornhuskers' new head football coach.

Pelini's deal has a base value of $5.5 million and also includes
performance-based incentives, according to Nebraska athletic
director Tom Osborne.

"It has been a very simple, straight-forward process," he said.
"Coach Osborne and I have been on the same page throughout the
process, and it is good to have the contract finalized."

Pelini, 39, was named to the position on December 2 but remained
in his role as Louisiana State's defensive coordinator for the
next month. The Tigers routed Ohio State, 38-24, in the BCS
Championship game on January 7.

"We knew all along that this contract would take until
mid-January to get everything done because Bo coordinated LSU's
defense in the national championship game, and he's been
immersed in recruiting since that game," Osborne said. "We're
very pleased with the process. There were no protracted
negotiations and no agents. Everything went smoothly."

Pelini, who spent the last three seasons at LSU, Pelini took
over the Nebraska program on an interim basis in 2003 after
Frank Solich was fired. His coaching resume also includes
stints in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, New England
Patriots and Green Bay Packers.
