STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Penn State football
coach Joe Paterno was released from the hospital late Thursday
afternoon after receiving treatment for dehydration.
Paterno, 81, was taken via ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical
Center after suffering from nausea Thursday morning.
According to a Penn State spokesperson, Paterno underwent tests
but was never officially admitted to the hospital.
Entering his record 43rd season as Penn State's head coach,
Paterno owns a 372-125-3 career record with the Nittany Lions.
The Brooklyn native is second behind Florida State's Bobby
Bowden (373) for the NCAA's all-time lead for coaching victories
in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Paterno has spent 59 seasons as either an assistant or head
coach at Penn State. However, Paterno is not under contract
with the Nittany Lions after this upcoming season, leading to
speculation regarding his health.
In a statement released by the school, Penn State revealed that
Paterno has had quite a busy schedule over the past week.
After visiting alumni in Philadelphia this past weekend, Paterno
spent the last three days in Chicago at the Big Ten Conference
coaches' meetings. He was also scheduled to attend a dinner
honoring Texas head coach Mack Brown on Friday in Austin, Texas
- a trip he still plans to take.
Paterno coached the Nittany Lions to a 9-4 record and a victory
over Texas A&M in the Alamo Bowl this past season.
