RB Davis to return to Clemson

editor1  |Jan 19,2008

CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Clemson will not be
losing one-half of its potent rushing attack after all.

James Davis announced on Friday that he will return to school
after announcing on January 10 that he was foregoing his senior
season to enter the NFL draft.

Davis faxed a letter to the NFL and Clemson on Friday asking
that his name be removed from consideration.

"I James Davis of Clemson University hereby withdraw my name
from the 2008 NFL Draft, effective immediately," the fax read.

Davis teamed with sensational sophomore C.J. Spiller to form a
devastating 1-2 punch to help the Tigers (9-4) finish second in
the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing (161.2 yards per game).

The 5-11, 205-pound Davis was a first-team All-ACC selection
after racking up 1,064 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

"We welcome James back to Clemson," Tigers coach Tommy Bowden
said. "I know it was a difficult decision for him and we
continued to communicate. In the final analysis, he realizes
this is the best decision for him and his family. This decision
will give him a much better opportunity to graduate, which I
know is important to James and his family."
