BLACKSBURG, Virginia Tech (Ticker) -- Virginia Tech on Monday
rescinded a scholarship offer to recruit Peter Rose, who is
facing felony drug charges.
The 18-year-old Rose is charged with two counts of distribution
of marijuana and two additional counts of distribution of drugs
within 1,000 feet of a school.
Rose and six other students at Lynchburg's Amherst High School
were charged Saturday after police completed a 10-month
undercover operation.
"Each scholarship offer we make is contingent upon a number of
requirements, one of which is maintaining the high standards
required of each recruit in their community, school and on the
football field," Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said Monday in
a statement released by the school. "I am disappointed that
this action was necessary."
A quarterback, Rose was Virginia's Group AA Player of the Year
last season.
