The University of Kentucky...Plays Football?

The University of Kentucky...Plays Football?
The number 9 is showing potential to carry a curse for the 2007 season – well, at least the number 9 in the NCAA Associated Press Poll. Last week, Virginia Tech fell to LSU; not only did they fall, they fell hard. This week, Louisville has claimed the dreaded number 9 spot, and will head east across “The Bluegrass State” to face in-state rival, Kentucky.

After Louisville embarrassed Kentucky in the opening game of the 2006 season, the Wildcats licked their wounds and went on to post one of their best season in years – including a bowl victory. Kentucky has continued to improve and is now showing signs that the defense might be capable of helping out their high scoring offense. The wounds from last September have healed, and they're now licking their lips for an opportunity at redemption...and maybe a little revenge. So what does all of this mean? On Saturday, another team will fall from the top 9, and Kentucky will find themselves in the top 25 for the first time...in a long time. You heard it here first – University of Kentucky over University of Louisville. And Mike Hart, I'll one-up ya: I guarantee it! Wait, no – I'm not that asinine.

Both defenses will struggle to stop two of the most talented college quarterbacks playing in the Saturday ball league. However, it will be the more athletic Andre' Woodson that will lead the Kentucky Wildcats to what will be their most important win of the past 30 years. That is, until they beat Florida on October 20th. (For anyone who still doesn't know who Andre' Woodson is, do yourself a favor and flip on the game Saturday night.)

Brian Brohm and the potent Louisville offense will have no problem putting points on the board against the much improved, yet suspect Kentucky defense, but when it's all said and done, the Big Blue Nation will play the most important 4th quarter role of the 12th man. The home team will emerge victorious, and math professors from both schools may be called upon to tally the combined number of points on the scoreboard.
