Miami Dolphins Head Coach Profile Cameron is widely regarded for his ability to develop quarterbacks. Most recently, he was working with Chargers QB Phillip Rivers. In Rivers first season as a starter, the Chargers were 14-2 and Rivers made the Pro Bowl. Prior to that, he mentored current Saints QB Drew Brees, who had an MVP caliber season while leading New Orleans to the NFC Championship Game. Cameron even turned Gus Frerotte into a Pro Bowl quarterback. His prior head coaching experience came at the collegiate level. He coached at the University of Indiana from 1997-2001, compiling an 18-37 record. In fairness, even Bill Walsh could not win at Indiana. He never had the quality of players to compete with the likes of Big Ten powerhouses Michigan and Ohio State. Last season as Chargers offensive coordinator, Cameron oversaw Ladanian Tomlinson’s record-breaking season for touchdowns. Expectations are that he can have a similar impact on Ronnie Brown’s production. Miami Dolphins Off-Season Moves The Miami Dolphins big free agent acquisition was linebacker Joey Porter, previously of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Porter brings explosiveness and leadership to the defense. Miami acquired veteran quarterback Trent Green via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs. Miami traded last season’s leading receiver Wes Welker to the New England Patriots. Also gone is second leading receiver , tight end Randy McMichael. Long time kicker Olindo Mare was traded to the New Orleans Saints. The team signed Jay Feely to be the kicker. The decision to keep Dom Capers as defensive coordinator is a clear sign that Cameron know what he is doing. With Cameron leading the way, the Dolphins should be a solid team for the foreseeable future. Miami Dolphins 2007-08 Season Outlook The Dolphins have undergone a massive overhaul this offseason. The Nick Saban era came and went rather quickly. Newly appointed head coach Cam Cameron has been singled out to clean up the oil spill that is the Dolphins. Despite an unstable quarterback situation in 2006, the team finished 6-10, including wins over the Patriots and Bears. This was due in large part to the play of their defense. Led by Pro Bowlers Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas, the Phins D was one of the best in the league. The addition of explosive linebacker Joey Porter via free agency should inject even more ferocity into the defensive unit. The same can’t be said for the offense. One bright spot was running back Ronnie Brown , The former Auburn Tiger rushed for a 1,000 yards. The two leading receivers from last year’s squad are no longer with the team. The quarterback picture became much clearer with the recent release of Daunte Culpepper. The team acquired veteran Trent Green from the Kansas City Chiefs. Cameron coached Green when both were with the Redskins organization in the mid-1990’s. Coach Cam is clearly more confident with Green under center than Culpepper. The outlook for the season is kind of cloudy. There is plenty of talent on both sides of the ball but it is unclear how quickly the team can gel under the new regime. If Green can provide stability and efficiency at QB, the defense could carry the team to a potential wild card berth. Miami Dolphins TriviaA contest was held in 1965 to determine the name of the franchise. The name "Dolphins" was submitted by 622 entrants. The Dolphins first home game was played at the Orange Bowl. Dan Marino was also drafted by the Kansas City Royals. The Dolphins have only had seven head coaches in team history. Miami Dolphins – Dolphins Stadium Construction Began: December 1985 Opened: August 16, 1987 Capacity: 75,000 Location: Miami, FL Surface: Natural Grass Originally named after Dolphins owner Joe Robbie, Dolphin Stadium came to fruition through his personal vision and effort. After a tax initiative failed multiple times, Robbie took the reigns, determined to move the Dolphins out of the Orange Bowl. The funding was secured through the sale of tickets, luxury boxes, long term contracts with potential season ticket holders and private funding. Rapidly becoming one of the “older” stadiums still occupied in the NFL, Dolphins Stadium has continued to upgrade in amenities, while playing host not only to the Miami Dolphins, but MLB's Florida Marlins. |
