1978 NFL Playoffs


The playoffs that year expanded to 10 teams. The two wild card teams would play each other in the first round. The Houston Oilers defeated the Miami Dolphins 17-9 in the AFC wild card game. The Atlanta Falcons beat the Philadelphia Eagles 14-13 in the NFC wild card game.

In the AFC divisional round, the Pittsburgh Steelers hammered the Denver Broncos 33-10 and the Houston Oilers upset the New England Patriots 31-14.

In the NFC divisional round, the Dallas Cowboys beat the Atlanta Falcons 27-20 and the Los Angeles Rams trounced the Minnesota Vikings 34-10.

The Pittsburgh Steelers crushed the Houston Oilers 34-5 in the AFC Championship Game. The Dallas Cowboys blanked the Los Angeles Rams 28-0 in the NFC Championship Game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 35-31 in Super Bowl XIII.
