Dallas's Mel Renfro returned kicks of 82 and 56 yards for score in easily leading the NFC to a 27-6 victory over the AFC in the first Pro Bowl following the NFL-AFL merger. Beyond Renfro's heroics, the 1971 game was all about defense---at least on the part of the NFC, as they held the AFC to a paltry 146 yards of offense. Renfro was tabbed as the game's offensive star, while Fred Carr took honors as the top defensive player. Kansas City's Jan Stenerud also figured in the mix, booting three field goals for the triumphant NFC.
