Super Bowl III

NY Jets vs. Baltimore Colts

Date: January 12, 1969
Host City: Miami, FL
Stadium: Miami Orange Bowl
National Anthem: Anita Bryant
Halftime Entertainment: Florida A&M Band
MVP: Joe Namath – Quarterback, NY Jets
Final Score: NY Jets-16 Baltimore Colts-7

Known famously for Joe Namath's prediction, Super Bowl III would also experience some firsts that would set forth the winds of change in the NFL. The Super Bowl would finally become the “official” name of the championship game that would represent the culmination of each football season, and the AFL would finally crack the code of defeating an NFL squad. Joe Namath would be awarded MVP honors in the game, even though the low scoring affair resulted in no statistical touchdowns for the Jets QB. Namath would later explain that his guarantee was merely a shot at a rowdy Colts fan in a local Miami establishment.
