Super Bowl IX
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Minnesota Vikings
Date: January 12, 1975 Host City: New Orleans, LA Stadium: Tulane Stadium National Anthem: Grambling State University Marching Band Halftime Entertainment: “Tribute to Duke Ellington” - Mercer Ellington and the GSU Marching Band MVP: Franco Harris – Running Back, Pittsburgh Steelers Final Score: Pittsburgh-16 Minnesota-6
Another Super Bowl for the Vikings wrought with disappointment. After previous losses to the former AFL's KC Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, this defeat would come at the hands of young QB named Terry Bradshaw, and a potent offensive attack from Pittsburgh. They game was touted as a match-up between the league's two premier defensive units: Minnesota's Purple People Eaters v. Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain. In the end, the “Steel Curtain” would prevail, and once again, an exceptional running attack would destroy the Minnesota defense. Franco Harris rushed for 158 yards, including a touchdown, earning him MVP honors. Check out the summaries for Super Bowl VIII and Super Bowl X.
