Super Bowl VIII

Miami Dolphins vs. Minnesota Vikings

Date: January 13, 1974
Host City: Houston, TX
Stadium: Rice Stadium
National Anthem: Charley Pride
Halftime Entertainment: University of Texas Marching Band
MVP: Larry Csonka – Running Back, Miami Dolphins
Final Score: Miami-24 Minnesota-7

In familiar territory, the Dolphins cruised to another fantastic regular season record, and a berth in their second consecutive Super Bowl. The Dolphins running game, led by power back Larry Csonka, punished the Minnesota defense over 4 quarters. Miami's defense continued their dominance that they had enjoyed over the previous two seasons, and shut out the Vikings offense until the 4th quarter, when QB Fran Tarkenton was able to put together a 9 play drive and run for a score; however, the outcome of the game had been decided at the point. Appropriately, the MVP honor was awarded to Dolphins RB Larry Csonka, who ran for 145 yards on 31 carries.
