Super Bowl XV
Oakland Raiders vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Date: January 25, 1981 Host City: New Orleans, LA Stadium: Louisiana Superdome National Anthem: Helen O'Connell Halftime Entertainment: Jim Skinner Productions - “Mardi Gras Festival” MVP: Jim Plunkett – Quarterback, Oakland Raiders Final Score: Oakland-27 Philadelphia-10
Super Bowl XV would mark the pinnacle of Jim Plunkett's career. After struggling in previous years, his 1980 regular season was a revival of sorts, after he was thrust into the starting lineup for the Raiders due to an injury to starting QB, Dan Pastorini. Plunkett had been drafted nearly 10 years prior by the New England Patriots, and even went on to win the “Rookie of the Year” award in 1971, yet the years following served to put a losing record under the belt of Plunkett before he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers, not enjoying any more success. Super Bowl XV was in essence, the “Jim Plunkett Show,” as he threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns against the Eagles, putting the Raiders up early and never looking back en route to the Raiders second Super Bowl title.
