Super Bowl XVIII

Los Angeles Raiders vs. Washington Redskins

Date: January 22, 1984
Host City: Tampa, FL
Stadium: Tampa Stadium
National Anthem: Barry Manilow
Halftime Entertainment: Florida State University and University of Florida Marching Bands
MVP: Marcus Allen – Running Back, Los Angeles Raiders
Final Score: Los Angeles-38 Washington-9

The game was a wash for football fans hoping to see a good game. What they saw instead was the complete offensive dominance of a Los Angeles Raiders football team over the Redskins that was led by “phenom” running back, Marcus Allen. Allen's 74 yard run in the 3rd quarter not only served as icing on the Super Bowl cake, but it has been played repeatedly as one of the defining moments in NFL and Super Bowl history. Allen racked up a cool 209 total yards from scrimmage, running for 191 with 2 TDs and catching two passes for 18 yards – he was named Super Bowl MVP, and gained instant celebrity in the Raiders new home of Los Angeles.
