Super Bowl XX Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots Date: January 26, 1986 Host City: New Orleans, LA Stadium: Louisiana Superdome National Anthem: Wynton Marsalis (Trumpet) Halftime Entertainment: Up with People - “Beat of the Future” MVP: Richard Dent – Defensive End, Chicago Bears Final Score: Chicago-46 New England-10 Da Bears. Jim McMahon, Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, Richard Dent, Willie Gault, William “The Refrigerator” Perry: Could they have possibly been beaten? After cruising to a 15-1 regular season record, owning the leagues top spots in total offense and total defense, this January 26 match-up between the New England Patriots was nothing more than a formality to crown the new NFL king. The early score by the Patriots came off a Chicago miscue which led to a fumble deep in their own territory. The 3 points was all the Patriots would see until the fourth quarter. Chicago would dominate through the air in this contest as New England would focus on doing their best to contain Walter Payton and the Bears running attack. Although they held the late Payton to 66 yards on the ground, his presence was enough to open up the passing lanes an allow for one of the most lopsided Super Bowl victories in NFL history.
