Super Bowl XXI NY Giants vs. Denver Broncos Date: January 25, 1987 Host City: Pasadena, CA Stadium: Rose Bowl National Anthem: Neil Diamond Halftime Entertainment: “Salute to Hollywood's 100th Anniversary” with Southern California Drill and Dance Teams MVP: Phil Simms – Quarterback, NY Giants Final Score: New York-39 Denver-20 It would announce the arrival of superstar Denver QB, John Elway, but without an incredible supporting cast, the Broncos would be met with the power of a NY Giants defense that stepped up their game at crucial, key points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to keep the Broncos out of scoring range. Their ability to harness John Elway's improvisation on the field of play was ultimately what offered the Giants offense opportunity to counter and capitalize. Phil Simms played nearly a perfect game, completing 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and 3 TDs, en route to winning Super Bowl MVP honors. Check out the summaries for Super Bowl XX and Super Bowl XXII.
