Super Bowl XXIV

San Francisco 49ers vs. Denver Broncos

Date: January 28, 1990
Host City: New Orleans, LA
Stadium: Louisiana Superdome
National Anthem: Aaron Neville
Halftime Entertainment: Pete Fountain, Doug Kershaw, Irma Thomas
MVP: Joe Montana – Quarterback, San Francisco 49ers
Final Score: San Francisco-55 Denver-10

John Elway's third appearance with the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl would mark the 4th victory for Joe Montana. Sadly, the favorite 49ers would run away from their opponents in record fashion, making Super Bowl XXIV the most lopsided “Championship Game” in NFL history. Montana would lead the San Francisco passing attack, throwing for 297 yards and a record 5 TDs. With a 27-3 lead at half, the outcome of the game had already been decided – the only formality was the running of the clock during the final two 15 minute periods. This Super Bowl win would also offer Joe Montana his third Super Bowl MVP award.
