It would serve as a rematch of the previous year's Super Bowl XXVII, and the fourth consecutive Super Bowl appearance by the Buffalo Bills. A healthy Jim Kelly would take the field with his “hurry up” offense, and a would enjoy the support of a better defense than the year before. In fact, the Bills came out looking great, playing loose and as if they had nothing to lose. By halftime they owned a 13-6 lead over the favorite Cowboys, but then “it” happened early in the second half. The normally sure handed Thurman Thomas fumbled, and the Cowboys returned it for a touchdown and the tie. At that point, the Cowboys would put the ball in the hands of their sure-handed running back, Emmitt Smith, and they would go on to score 24 unanswered points in the second half, giving them their second consecutive Super Bowl championship. Smith would rush for 132 yards on 30 carries, scoring 2 TDs en route to taking MVP honors.
