Super Bowl XXXVII Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Oakland Raiders Date: January 26, 2003 Host City: San Diego, CA Stadium: Qualcomm Stadium National Anthem: Dixie Chicks and Celine Dion (God Bless America) Halftime Entertainment: Shania Twain, No Doubt, Sting MVP: Dexter Jackson – Safety, Tamp Bay Buccaneers Final Score: Tampa Bay-48 Oakland-21 For all intensive purposes, this Super Bowl match-up was just as much about the advantage Jon Gruden had over his former team than it was about the Bucs vs. Raiders. Gruden who had coached the Raiders from 1998 – 2001, simply had every advantage over a team imaginable. Arguably, his assembling of the Raiders squad was a primary reason they reached the playoffs to meet his present Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa dominated the game from the onset, scoring 17 points in the 2nd quarter to go into the locker room at half leading the game 20-3. The Bucs defense forced Oakland QB Rich Gannon into 5 interceptions – 3 were returned for TDs. Gruden clearly owning the mental edge over his former QB, was able to turn his D-backs onto Gannon's “tells” and ultimately allow those players to secure the game.
