Super Bowl XXXVIII

New England Patriots vs. Carolina Panthers

Date: February 1, 2004
Host City: Houston, TX
Stadium: Reliant Stadium
National Anthem: Beyonce
Halftime Entertainment: Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Outkast, P. Diddy, Kid Rock, Nelly
MVP: Tom Brady – Quarterback, New England Patriots
Final Score: New England-32 Carolina-29

One of the greatest Super Bowl contests in NFL history, and it's most famous for a “wardrobe malfunction” during the halftime show, involving Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake. The defenses were the story during the 1st and 3rd quarters, and the offenses in the 2nd and 4th. It was clear that the teams were evenly matched and would battle for four quarters as the halftime score showed the Patriots in the lead 14-10. Late in the 4th quarter, the Panthers put together a great drive led by QB Jake Delhomme, and tied the score at 29 with 1:08 remaining. No Super Bowl contest had ever entered an overtime period, and it was looking as if it was destined to finally happen. On the ensuing kick off, Panther's kicker John Kasay kicked the ball out of bounds, giving the Patriots excellent field position. Tom Brady went to work, moving the ball well within Adam Vinatieri's field goal range, giving him the opportunity to kick yet another Super Bowl winning field goal. Tom Brady would once again receive MVP honors, throwing for 354 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT.
