Bengals LB Brooks accused of punching woman

editor1  |May 02,2008

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - The off-field issues for the Cincinnati
Bengals will not go away.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks was accused of punching a woman in the
face, according to a report in Thursday's Cincinnati Enquirer.

Destiny Rosich of Florence, Kentucky, gave a sworn statement
Wednesday, claiming Brooks punched her in the left eye after she
interceded in an argument between the linebacker and one of her
neighbors.

Brooks must appear in Boone (Kentucky) District Court on June 6
to answer to the charge of fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor
which is punishable by up to a year in jail.

It's the latest in a series of incidents involving Cincinnati
players. Wide receiver Chris Henry was released by the Bengals
last month after his fifth arrest.

In the statement, Rosich said Brooks told the neighbor that he
was going to "split his head open."

Rosich's young children were outside and began to cry, so she
said she "nicely approached" Brooks and asked him to take the
argument "somewhere else," the statement read.

"He then pulled back his fist and struck (punched) me in the
left eye. I then fell and blacked out," the complaint said.

Rosich said when she regained consciousness, she took her
children inside the house and dialed 911. She was later taken
to the emergency room.

Police were called to the scene, but because they did not
witness the alleged altercation, no arrests were made.

Police spokesman John McDermond told the newspaper that the
officers' role was limited to explaining how to fill out a
criminal summons to Rosich.

"Our policy is that it's not appropriate to comment on legal
proceedings in which there is no ruling," Bengals spokesman Jack
Brennan told the newspaper.

Brooks was a third-round pick in the NFL's supplemental draft in
2006. He was dismissed from the Virginia football team
following his junior year after reportedly failing a drug test.

Last season, Brooks appeared in just two games, suffering a
groin injury in Week Two that eventually landed him on
season-ending injured reserve.
