Broncos make offer to K Mare

DENVER (Ticker) - The Denver Broncos would like to make Olindo
Mare their new place kicker, but the veteran is still weighing
his options, according to a report on the Rocky Mountain News
web site Thursday.

Mare completed a two-day visit with the Broncos Wednesday and
reportedly was offered a contract. However, the free agent
declined to sign on the dotted line and continued on to Seattle
where he'll meet with the Seahawks.

The Broncos are trying to find a replacement for long-time
kicker Jason Elam, who signed with Atlanta earlier this month.

Mare also has reportedly drawn interest from the New Orleans
Saints, for whom he kicked last season.

"I wouldn't say that there wasn't enough to make me sign here
because I had a great time," Mare told the newspaper. "I loved
it and all that. But obviously when you have options, it's good
to explore them all.

"I'm lucky that the teams that are interested are pretty much
winning programs and on their way to the playoffs. That's a big
part of what I want to be a part of right now."

Mare, 34, said he has recovered from a dislocated right hip
suffered in December when he made a tackle against the Atlanta
Falcons. The injury forced him to miss the team's final three
games.

An 11-year veteran, Mare kicked his first 10 seasons with the
Miami Dolphins, scoring 1,048 career points before his trade to
the Saints last year.

He went 10-of-17 last season - missing four kicks of 50-plus
yards - and made all 34 of his extra-point tries.
