ENGLEWOOD, Colorado (Ticker) -- The Denver Broncos added depth
to their backfield Wednesday, signing running back Michael
Pittman.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Denver Post
reported that Pittman signed a one-year contract worth the
veteran's minimum of $830,000.
Pittman, who will be entering his 11th NFL season, has served
primarily as a backup and third-down receiving option for most
of his career. The 32-year-old spent last season with the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, rushing for just 286 yards on 68 carries.
With the Broncos, the 228-pound Pittman likely will compete for
a reserve role behind starter Travis Henry. The Broncos also
have Selvin Young and rookie Ryan Torain as backup running
backs.
Pittman's finest moment in his six-year career with Tampa Bay
came in 2002, when he rushed for 124 yards on 29 carries in a
48-21 victory over the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.
In six seasons with the Bucs, Pittman rushed for 3,364 rushing
yards and hauled in 284 receptions.
Prior to joining Tampa Bay in 2002, Pittman played four seasons
for the Arizona Cardinals.
A third-round pick of Arizona in 1998, he rushed for 719 and 846
yards, respectively, in his final two seasons with the club.
The Broncos made another roster move Wednesday, waiving safety
Marviel Underwood.
