Browns sign GM Savage to extension

editor1  |May 02,2008

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Browns signed vice
president and general manager Phil Savage to a three-year
contract extension Friday.

Savage is entering his fourth season with the Browns and the
extension will run through the 2012 campaign.

"I am extremely grateful to Randy Lerner and the Browns'
organization for giving me an opportunity as a first time GM
back in January 2005 and now to continue with this extension
through the 2012 season," Savage said. "We have worked very
hard to turn the Browns around, on and off the field, and our
team is looking forward to the 2008 season."

Cleveland went 10-6 last season, narrowly missing its first
postseason appearance since 2002. The Browns also had six
players named to the Pro Bowl last season.

During this offseason the Browns signed quarterback Derek
Anderson to a contract extension, acquired defensive tackle
Shaun Rogers from Detroit in a trade and signed free agent wide
receiver Donte' Stallworth.

The Browns are 20-28 during Savage's tenure.
