Chargers assistant GM retires

editor1  |Apr 30,2008

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - Buddy Nix retired as assistant general
manager and director of player personnel for the San Diego
Chargers, the team announced Tuesday.

It was part of an organizational restructuring by San Diego,
which included the promotion of six front-office executives as
well as adding former Miami Dolphins general manager Randy
Mueller to the staff.

The 68-year-old Nix spent 15 seasons in the NFL, including the
last seven with the Chargers.

"Buddy has had a long, distinguished career in coaching and
scouting," San Diego GM A.J. Smith said. "I have had the
privilege of working alongside him for 15 years in Buffalo and
San Diego. He did an outstanding job. We appreciate his
contributions and wish him well."

Mueller, who lost his job when Bill Parcells took over as
director of football operations in Miami this offseason, joins
the Chargers as a senior executive. He also had served as
general manager with the New Orleans Saints for two seasons.

"I've known Randy for more than 20 years," Smith said. "He's a
long-time personnel man who then went on to be a front office
executive. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the Chargers on a
number of fronts, and I look forward to finally having a chance
to work with him."
