Cowboys, Owens agree to 4year deal

editor1  |Jun 02,2008

DALLAS (Ticker) - The Dallas Cowboys and star wide receiver
Terrell Owens agreed to terms on a four-year contract Monday,
according to the Dallas Morning News.

Citing sources, the newspaper said the contract was worth $34
million for Owens, who will turn 35 in December and is entering
his third season with the Cowboys.

Owens was in the third and final season of a $25 million year
contract with the Cowboys. He has lived up to his end of the
deal in his first two campaigns, hauling in 186 receptions and
scoring 28 touchdowns while going over 1,000 yards both times.

The new deal will run through the 2011 season and give Owens the
security that he lacked and led to messy departures with both
the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles over contract
demands.

Owens has 882 receptions - ninth in NFL history - in 11 seasons
with the 49ers, Eagles and Cowboys.

A third-round pick of San Francisco in 1996, Owens had 129
career touchdown receptions - good for third all-time behind
Jerry Rice (197) and Cris Carter (130).

Owens had hauled in at least 13 touchdown catches in seven
seasons; only Rice has managed eight seasons with that many
scoring passes. The combustible wideout also had eight
1,000-yard seasons, including five straight from 2000-04.

Last month, the Cowboys lavished a pair of seven-year contracts
worth a reported $95 million on Pro Bowlers Marion Barber and
Terence Newman, and it was expected a new deal for Owens would
be forthcoming.
