MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Former Minnesota Viking defensive end
Darrion Scott was charged Tuesday with assaulting his 2-year-old
son by holding a plastic bag over the child's head, according
to a report from the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
According to the criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Hennepin
County District Court, the boy's mother heard his muffled cries
and found Scott holding the bag over the child's head on April
26. She said the boy was on his back on the floor and his legs
kicking as Scott held the bag tightly around the child's neck.
The Star Tribune reported that the mother told police she had
evidence of previous injuries while the boy was in Scott's care,
and a doctor who examined the boy said there is a reasonable
degree of medical certainty that marks on the child's arm and
ear were intentionally inflicted and were consistent with either
burning or being struck.
Scott told police the two were playing with the bag, and he
wanted to see whether the boy could get the bag off his head by
himself, according to the newspaper.
The 26-year-old Scott was arrested last Wednesday and has been
in custody at the Hennepin County jail.
An Ohio State alum, Scott spent the past four seasons with the
Vikings, making just one tackle in four games last season. He
was also cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession in December.
