FLOWERY BRANCH, Georgia (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Falcons handed
out early Thanksgiving presents to a pair of players, rewarding
wide receiver Michael Jenkins and defensive tackle Jonathan
Babineaux with lengthy contract extensions.
Jenkins, a fifth-year receiver and first-round pick in 2004, was
awarded a four-year extension, one year less than the Falcons
lavished on Babineaux, a second-round selection who is in his
fourth season with the club.
Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
"We're excited and pleased to extend the contracts of Falcons
players who have made significant contributions to the overall
success of our football team," said Falcons general manager
Thomas Dimitroff. "Michael and Jonathan are both team guys who
work hard on and off the field and are both very productive on
Sundays."
Jenkins has 33 receptions for 498 yards and three touchdowns for
Atlanta, which is one of the league's biggest surprises at 7-4
one season after a disastrous 4-12 campaign. He has 168 career
receptions for 17 touchdowns.
"I'm really excited to continue my career here in Atlanta,"
Jenkins said. "The team-oriented program is something I want to
continue to be a part of."
Babineaux has recorded 23 tackles, two sacks and one fumble
recovery this season. He has registered 150 tackles - 106 solo -
and 6 1/2 sacks in his career.
"I'm happy that this deal got done," said Babineaux. "This is a
great organization with a great group of players and coaches."
