Giants visit White House

editor1  |Apr 30,2008

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The reigning Super Bowl champion New
York Giants paid a visit to the White House on Wednesday
afternoon.

The Giants were honored by President George W. Bush during a
ceremony held on the White House's South Lawn.

Team president John Mara, executive vice president Steve Tisch,
head coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning, the MVP of
Super Bowl XLII, headlined the contingent of players and
executives that presented Bush with a Giants jersey and a
football autographed by the team.

"You've won the gratitude of your fans," Bush said. "New York
Giants fans love these Giants. And so we congratulate you all."

The Giants pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NFL history
in February, stunning the then-undefeated New England Patriots,
17-14.

The thrilling contest prevented the Patriots from joining the
1972 Miami Dolphins as the only teams in NFL history to win the
Super Bowl following a perfect regular season.

"This is a great team that worked together," Bush told the
Giants. "You won the Vince Lombardi Trophy - and you won the
deep gratitude of the 1972 Miami Dolphins."
