FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts.-- The New England Patriots decided to
get younger at tight end on Tuesday, releasing veteran Marcus
Pollard and signing rookie Tyson DeVree.

Pollard is a 13-year NFL veteran who spent his best years with
the Indianapolis Colts from 1995-2004 before stints with the
Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks. The 36-year-old was signed
by the Patriots as a free agent in April.

The 23-year-old DeVree was originally signed by the Patriots as
a rookie free agent in May, but was released a month later.
Terms of the new deal with the 6-6, 245-pounder were not
released.

Pollard, who caught 28 passes for 273 yards and a pair of
touchdowns last season with Seattle, has 349 receptions for
4,280 yards and 40 touchdowns in 191 career games.

He had his best year in 2001 with quarterback Peyton Manning and
the Colts, posting career highs in receptions (47), receiving
yards (739) and touchdowns (8).
