BOSTON (Ticker) -- Veteran free agent safety John Lynch has
found a new home.
Lynch, who asked to be released from the Denver Broncos rather
than accept a diminished role, signed with the defending AFC
champion New England Patriots on Friday.
Terms were not disclosed, but NFL.com reported on its web site
that Lynch, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, signed a one-year
deal worth $1.5 million.
Lynch, who will turn 37 on September 25, figures to replace Tank
Williams, who was placed on injured reserve on Sunday after
suffering a knee injury in the Patriots' exhibition opener
against the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite his age, Lynch is coming off a Pro Bowl season. He was
named to the AFC team as an injury replacement after starting 12
of 13 games and finishing with 59 tackles, a sack and three
passes defended.
Also on Friday, the Patriots placed veteran offensive lineman
Barry Stokes on injured reserve.
