Pats OL Kaczur informed feds in drug sting

BOSTON (Ticker) -- New England Patriots offensive lineman Nick
Kaczur worked as a federal informant in a drug sting after being
arrested two months ago on a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

Kaczur, 28, was arrested in New York on April 27 on a charge of
illegal possession of oxycodone, a pain killer.

Following the arrest, Kaczur helped federal agents build a case
against his alleged supplier, Daniel Ekasala, who was indicted
last month on three counts of oxycodone possession.

According to an affidavit filed by the Drug Enforcement
Administration, federal investigators were assisted during the
sting operation by an anonymous "cooperating witness," who
communicated with Ekasala via text messaging.

Bernard Grossberg, Ekasala's agent, revealed Wednesday that the
witness was Kaczur, who started 15 games last season for the
reigning AFC champion Patriots.

"My client was always sympathetic to Mr. Kaczur," Grossberg
said. "Professional athletes in this country are treated like
royalty, and royalty sometimes abuses the people they come in
contact with. I think that's what happened to Ekasala."

However, Kaczur denied participating in the investigation when
questioned by the Boston Globe.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Kaczur told the
newspaper. "I don't know where this is coming from."

The Patriots did not immediately respond when contacted by PA
SportsTicker.

According to Grossberg, Kaczur wore a hidden recording device
while purchasing drugs from Ekasala on three separate occasions
last month. Kaczur purchased approximately 100 oxycodone pills
during each of the transactions.
