WESTMINSTER, Maryland (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Ravens signed
four-time Pro Bowl fullback Lorenzo Neal on Tuesday.
Neal, a 15-year veteran, passed a physical with the team Tuesday
morning.
One of the game's best blocking fullbacks, Neal spent his last
five seasons with the San Diego Chargers, where he paved the way
for LaDainian Tomlinson. The veteran has blocked for a
1,000-yard rusher in 11 straight seasons.
"The thing about him is that the players all know him," Ravens
coach John Harbaugh said. "They all respect him. All of our
linebackers have been hit by him.
Last season, the 37-year-old Neal missed the final three
regular-season games and postseason with a fractured right
fibula.
The move reunites Neal with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron,
who was in charge of the Chargers' offense from 2003-06.
"I think he's just another good back in the meeting room,"
Cameron said. "He's one of the finest professionals that I've
had the privilege to work with. When you talk about a Raven - a
guy that's physical, competitive, that knows how to win and
wants to win - the guy that I think about is Lorenzo Neal. He's
going to come in and complement that room."
Meanwhile, Harbaugh said running back Willis McGahee's
arthroscopic procedure on his left knee went better than
expected.
"They cleaned it up, it was less than what we thought it was,
and it's getting healthy," Harbaugh said
McGahee, who did not play in the team's preseason opener against
the New England Patriots, rushed for 1,207 yards and seven
touchdowns last season - his first with the Ravens after three
seasons with the Buffalo Bills.
On Monday, Harbaugh said he expects to have McGahee back for the
regular-season opener.
