Report: Giants sign DE Wynn

editor1  |Jun 02,2008

NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The New York Giants reportedly
are on the verge of adding defensive end Renaldo Wynn to their
stable of pass rushers.

The Giants and Wynn have agreed to terms on a one-year contract,
according to a report published Monday by The Star-Ledger of
Newark.

Citing an anonymous source close to the negotiation process, the
Star-Ledger reported that the deal still has not been
finalized. The report did not include financial terms of the
contract.

Wynn's agent, Peter J. Schaffer, did not comment on the report
when contacted by PA SportsTicker.

Wynn, 33, would provide depth to a New York defensive line which
already features star defensive ends Michael Strahan, Osi
Umenyiora and Justin Tuck along with linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka
- a converted end.

But the Giants have some depth issues at defensive tackle, a
position Wynn could fill on passing downs.

Strahan, 36, has been mulling retirement throughout the
offseason but still has not announced whether he will return to
the reigning Super Bowl champion Giants.

A 1997 first-round draft selection, Wynn appeared in 12 games
with the New Orleans Saints last season, recording 13 tackles
and 3 1/2 sacks. The 296-pound Chicago native has 25 career
sacks in parts of 11 seasons with the Saints, Washington
Redskins and Jacksonville Jaguars.
