BOSTON (Ticker) -- Veteran free agent safety John Lynch
apparently has found a new home.
Lynch, who asked to be released from the Denver Broncos rather
than accept a diminished role, has signed with the defending AFC
champion New England Patriots, according to the Boston Globe.
NFL.com reported on its web site that Lynch, a nine-time Pro
Bowl selection, signed a one-year deal with the Patriots worth
$1.5 million.
New England coach Patriots Bill Belichick said on Thursday that
Lynch had met with him and taken a physical.
The Patriots, however, have not officially announced the
signing.
Calls to Lynch's agent, Joby Branion, were not returned to PA
SportsTicker.
Lynch, who will turn 37 on September 25, figures to replace Tank
Williams, who was placed on injured reserve on Sunday after
suffering a knee injury in the Patriots' exhibition opener
against the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite his age, Lynch is coming off a Pro Bowl season. He was
named to the AFC team as an injury replacement after starting 12
of 13 games and finishing with 59 tackles, a sack and three
passes defended.
