Report: Seahawks sign CB Trufant

editor1  |Mar 26,2008

BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Seattle Seahawks cornerback
Marcus Trufant apparently is staying in the Pacific Northwest.

The Seahawks have signed Trufant to a six-year contract worth
$50.2 million, according to a report Wednesday on ESPN.com.

Taken by the Seahawks with the 11th overall pick in the 2003
draft, Trufant - a Washington State product - had indicated that
he wanted to stay with Seattle.

The deal Trufant reportedly signed would be less than the
contracts given to Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel
(six years at $57 million), San Francisco 49ers corner Nate
Clements (eight years $80 million) and newly acquired Oakland
Raider DeAngelo Hall (seven years, $70 million).

The Seahawks applied the franchise tag to Trufant, 27, on
February 20, giving them leverage in the negotiations with the
Tacoma, Washington native.

Trufant has spent the first five years of his career with
Seattle. Last year, he played in all 16 games, recording 85
tackles and seven interceptions, which tied for third in the
league.
