Saints DT Thomas out two months

METAIRIE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- The career of New Orleans Saints
defensive tackle Hollis Thomas could be jeopardy after he tore
his right triceps during a recent pass rushing drill, the
Times-Picayune reported Thursday.

The veteran Thomas, 34, who suffered the injury Wednesday and
underwent surgery on Thursday morning, will be sidelined for a
minimum of two months, according to the newspaper. In his 13th
year, Thomas also could be placed on season-ending injured
reserve.

"He worked very hard to get his weight down," Saints defensive
line coach Ed Orgeron told the Times-Picayune. "He was very good
in a role that relied on experience. He was having a fantastic
camp. So, it was just unfortunate that it happened."

Thomas started 14 games last season, recording 58 tackles and
three sacks.

Veteran nose tackle Kendrick Clancy now is in line to replace to
Thomas, whose injury also could mean more playing time for top
draft pick Sedrick Ellis, who has been practicing with the first
team.

Taken by the Saints with the seventh overall pick, Ellis was the
Pac-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year last season at
Southern California. In 13 games for the Trojans, he registered
58 tackles, including 12 for losses and eight sacks.
