Sparano dismisses Brown trade rumor

editor1  |Aug 19,2008

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Miami Dolphins apparently have no plans to
trade Ronnie Brown.

Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano has dismissed a recent rumor
involving Brown, claiming that the team will not deal the
injured running back.

"No chance that we're trading Ronnie," Sparano said after
Tuesday morning's practice. "I understand a rumor is flying out
there one way or the other. There was no discussion of that
internally or externally, none."

The second overall draft selection in the 2005 draft, Brown has
battled various injuries throughout his three-year career,
missing 13 games over that stretch. He currently is sidelined
with a sprained right thumb injury that will force him to miss
this week's preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Dolphins have listed Ricky Williams as the starting running
back on their most recent depth chart, which was released
Monday.

But less than 24 hours later, Sparano insisted that Brown still
has a chance to win the starting job.

"Ronnie is competing no different than anybody else," Sparano
said. "They're all competing, so there's no question about it.

"When you have Ronnie and Ricky, I think if you ask them that
question, they're going to say, 'I want to be the guy that's out
there.' So they're both competing from that standpoint, and
that's all I can say on that deal."

Brown, 26, rushed for 602 yards and four touchdowns last year
but missed the final nine games due to a season-ending knee
injury.
