Steelers sign DT McFarland

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Anthony "Booger" McFarland has reportedly
reached a contract agreement with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on its web site Wednesday
that the veteran defensive tackle agreed to terms with the club
late Tuesday after meeting with team officials and passing a
physical.

McFarland, 30, was released last month by the Indianapolis Colts
when he failed a team physical.

Acquired by Indianapolis in a trade with Tampa Bay in October
2006, McFarland was a key contributor for the Colts' run defense
during their championship season two years ago.

However, the former first-round pick spent all of last season on
injured reserve due to an knee injury.

The 6-0, 300-pound McFarland is likely to serve in a backup role
in Pittsburgh.
