Texans extend contract of RT Winston

editor1  |Sep 06,2008

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Texans have rewarded one of the
cornerstones of their offensive line.

The Texans signed right tackle Eric Winston to a contract
extension Saturday.

Terms of the team were not disclosed, but ESPN .com reported it
was for five years and worth $30 million, including $10 million
in guarantees.

A third-round pick out of Miami in 2006, Winston has not taken
long to be considered one of the Texans' core group of young
players on offense. The 6-5, 283-pounder appeared in seven
games in his rookie season before playing in all 16 last year.

With Houston aiming to improve a running game that finished 22nd
in the league last season, locking up the 24-year-old Winston
for the long term is the first step in the right direction.

Houston opens its season Sunday at Pittsburgh.
