Vikings QB Jackson diagnosed with sprained right MCL

editor1  |Aug 17,2008

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minnesota (Ticker) - Minnesota Vikings quarterback
Tarvaris Jackson, who left Saturday night's preseason game with
the Baltimore Ravens, was diagnosed with a sprained right MCL on
Sunday.

Jackson was injured when he was tackled by middle linebacker Ray
Lewis on a scramble late in the first quarter.

Before leaving the contest, the third-year quarterback was
7-of-11 for 82 yards and a touchdown pass. In his two preseason
games, Jackson is 15-for-22 for 200 yards.

In 2007, the 25-year-old threw for 1,911 yards with nine
touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 12 games.

The Vikings have two remaining games in the preseason and will
open the regular season against the Green Bay Packers on
September 8.

If Jackson is sidelined for an extended period, Gus Frerotte
will fill in as the starting quarterback. The 15-year veteran
threw for 1,014 yards with seven scoring strikes and 12
interceptions last season in eight games for the St. Louis Rams.
