NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Tennessee Titans quarterback
Vince Young claimed that he never considered retirement,
according to a report published Friday in the Tennessean.
Reports had surfaced earlier in the week that Young pondered
leaving the NFL after one season.
But Young refuted those rumors this week, saying that his
comments regarding retirement were "blown out of proportion."
"I was never going to quit football," Young told the Tennessean.
"Football, that is my pride and joy, it is my dream. I am
playing my dream. And I don't plan on giving that up any time
soon."
Young threw 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, also rushing for
seven scores to earn the 2006 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
award.
But the 6-5 quarterback struggled last season, throwing just
nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions while rushing for three
scores for the Titans, who still managed to make the playoffs.
According to a report on NFL.com, Young said that he "wasn't
having fun" and that "all the excitement" of being a quarterback
was gone.
But Young repeatedly told the Tennessean that he was "never
going to quit football" and said that he's in a "much different
place" mentally right now than he was last season.
"There was a lot of stuff going on in my life, but football is
not hard to me," Young told the newspaper. "Football is easy.
All you have to do is be coachable and use your God-given
talent.
"If (retirement) was a thought at all, it was just a passing
thought for a second."
