Many mocks have the Steelers taking Brandon Albert the underclass guard from Virginia with the #23 pick overall but their may be a problem with that scenario. Albert seems to be getting a lot of attention and may not be around at #23 in fact the Chiefs may be interested at #5 or even moving down to obtain his services (not that far fetched…remember the Cards selecting Levi Jones last year). The Steelers have had recent visits to their complex from a pair of defensive ends/outside linebackers who they are interested in to play in their 3-4 scheme. Auburn sack specialist Quentin Groves and Purdue speedster Cliff Avril (no accident that both of these players had their profiles released today on football.com). Another area of interest seems to be wide receiver. More to come on the Steelers plans later in future blogs. Rejected Plan for the Top Pick You always hear all sorts of rumors regarding the #1 pick in the draft and potential deals that are brewing. I’ve heard about a deal that apparently took flight a few weeks back and so far it hasn’t been refuted and it seems to have some merit. The deal involved the Cowboys offering a first round pick (#28 overall) and a third round pick to the Browns for Derek Anderson. The Cowboys would then deal Anderson to the Dolphins and swap first round picks with the Cowboys getting the top pick overall and the Dolphins getting the #22 pick overall as well as the Cowboys second round pick next year and Derek Anderson. The Cowboys would have moved to #1 overall and selected Darren McFadden….interesting….very interesting.
