Derwin's Douche of the Week - Week 2 Don’t you have to make Bill Belichick the Douche of the Week on principal? He was caught red handed cheating, and then called it a misinterpretation of the rules. Right. And Mike Vick originally thought dog fighting was legal if it’s not on pay-per-view. It’s a shame because even though I love the Redskins and Joe Gibbs, Bill Belichick is my favorite coach in the NFL. I’ve read several books about him, his approach to the game, and think he’s found the same niche for success that Coach K has found in college basketball. You forge a system and find the players that do certain things very well that you can plug in and the train doesn’t skip a beat. Year in and year out, as players move on, the system stays the same and you only accept those players that fit into the mold you created. Even last year, when Tom Brady had nobody of significance to throw the ball to, Belichick had the Pats one game away from a fourth Super Bowl in seven seasons. That’s just sheer dominance from a modern day NFL standpoint. The Patriots didn’t need to cheat. They can play with and more than likely beat any team on any given day 90% of the time. I guess it’s similar to politics. The Republican Party has been in a dominant power position in Washington since they took over the legislative branch in 1994, then the executive branch in 2000. After 12 years of making and enforcing policies, they either got greedy, or they were just drunk on their power. Either way, too many mistakes were made that have left our country in a very vulnerable state and why the Democrats can probably win in 2008 on the ticket of, “We’re Not Bush.” In the same fashion, Bill Belichick has had his way with teams and the NFL for going on eight seasons. At first, they were a feel-good Cinderella team full of nobodies and led by a boyishly handsome quarterback. How could you not love them? Not loving them meant you didn’t love football the way it was meant to be played. It meant you didn’t love America. You do love America, don’t you? Now in every stadium in the country outside of Foxboro, this once admired team will get booed. It’s all because of Bill Belichick and his need, or possibly a fatal flaw of being afraid to lose now that he has the marquis players and not being able to have the excuse that he didn’t have the weapons to win. Because Bill Belichick has gone from being known as the Almighty One to the devil, and has single handedly made the Patriots into the new “Evil Empire” of football, I’m going to have to go ahead and say, Bill… you are a douche.
