Jake is Signed…Who is Next?

Turns out it was either an honest mistake or a smokescreen when Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland suggested in a recent press conference that their top pick would be a “pillar of the defense for years to come”. Jake Long was the pick (as I have said in Mock Draft V1.0…then revisited in versions 4.0 to the present 11.0) and he is signed for 5 years to the tune of $57.75 million with $30 million guaranteed. The question now becomes who do the Rams go after? Will it be Chris Long the versatile lineman from Virginia or do they go after defensive tackle Glen Dorsey from LSU. The Rams aren’t tipping their hands just yet and one reason seems to be they are keeping their trade options open. New Orleans has been talking to the Rams for close to a week about moving up from the #10 spot and word now appears that the Falcons could move up one spot to #2 to ensure they get their hands on Dorsey. I think a likely scenario is the Falcons going up one spot and offering the Rams a second round pick as well and they have an abundance of picks with 11 so they can afford it. The Rams would then slip to #3 and likely take Chris Long. More to come on this situation.

The rumors we here out of Carolina have some merit. They are looking to move for a quarterback in this draft....but don’t assume it is in the upward direction for Matt Ryan only. The Panthers are also interested in keeping options open to move down and acquire an extra choice and would reportedly be looking at Brian Brohm if they do so.

Jared Allen on the Move

We’ve been following this story for weeks and it finally happened. 2007 NFL sack champion Jared Allen will be dealt from Kansas City to Minnesota. Allen has reportedly reached an agreement on a six year package for $ 73 million with $31 million in guaranteed money. The Vikings also sent the Chiefs their first round pick (#17 overall) as well as both of their third round picks (#’s 73 and 82). This is also fueling rumors that the Chiefs will use their first pick on a defensive lineman and may even trade some of their picks to move up in the pecking order. Things are starting to get reeeeeaaaallll interesting.
