Hardy incident not what Bills wanted It doesn't get much uglier than the James Hardy story at this point. According to authorities, a woman called police on Sunday afternoon saying the recently drafted wide receiver from Indiana was beating on his father. Hardy also allegedly pulled a gun when the woman screamed for him to stop. When police arrived, Hardy was already gone. Unfortunately, it is the same type of off the field behavior that may have been a concern for some NFL teams before the 2008 draft. Hardy, at 6-6, 220, had all the measurables to be a great one in the minds of some experts, and possibly a first-round pick. But character issues were an issue with Hardy. He was charged with domestic battery in 2006 for allegedly attacking his girlfriend and infant son. The case was settled out of court and charges were dropped . He also served a two-game suspension that season but it had nothing to do with the domestic battery charges. His father, James Hardy Jr. , did not want to press charges because he said his son had a lot of anger towards him because he was in prison when his son was growing up. The elder Hardy spent nine years in prison for dealing drugs. Hardy was drafted in the second round (41st overall) of the recent NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.
